Market Closing - Wednesday, 14 October 2026

  • The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) closed 0.39% higher at 5,948.83, compared with 5,925.98 at the close on October 13, 2026.
  • The Indonesian Rupiah weakened by 0.06% to IDR 17,900 per USD, compared with IDR 17,890 per USD at the close on October 13, 2026.

Indonesia’s financial markets closed mixed on Wednesday, with the JCI posting gains while the Rupiah weakened. Investors continued to monitor U.S. inflation data, which could influence the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy and interest rate trajectory, amid ongoing global economic uncertainty.

Global Markets

Wall Street closed lower on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 declining 1.11% to 7,718.94, the Nasdaq Composite falling 1.88% to 26,692.87, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average edging down 0.09% to 51,621.48. Market sentiment was pressured by U.S. inflation coming in above expectations, alongside a correction in technology and artificial intelligence (AI) stocks. These developments heightened concerns that interest rates could remain elevated for longer.

Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East escalated after the Houthis threatened to resume attacks on Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure. Supply disruption risks also stemmed from the Strait of Hormuz and Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries. Oil prices were mixed, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rising 0.18% to USD 94.79 per barrel, while Brent crude declined 0.48% to USD 105.69 per barrel, despite an 11.1 million-barrel decline in U.S. crude oil inventories.

The U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) strengthened by 0.12% to 102.30, reaching its highest level since April 2025. The dollar was supported by rising U.S. inflation and increased market expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike in December.

The U.S. released its September inflation data, showing headline inflation rising to 0.6% month-on-month (MoM) and 3.7% year-on-year (YoY), from 0.4% and 3.4%, respectively. Meanwhile, core inflation stood at 0.3% MoM, while the annual rate increased to 2.6% YoY from 2.4%. These figures strengthened the outlook for the U.S. dollar and added downward pressure on the Rupiah.

In China, September inflation edged up to 0.9% YoY, remaining below market expectations of 1.0%. Meanwhile, the trade surplus widened to USD 133.53 billion, supported by export growth of 36.3% and import growth of 31%. Strong trade performance supported China’s external economic activity, although subdued inflation suggested that domestic demand remained relatively weak.

Tonight, the U.S. is scheduled to release several key economic indicators, including September Producer Price Index (PPI), projected to rise to 0.5% from 0.4%; retail sales, expected to slow to 0.3% from 1.2%; and weekly initial jobless claims, forecast to increase to 200,000 from 197,000. A higher-than-expected PPI reading could provide further support for the U.S. dollar, while slower retail sales growth and an increase in jobless claims could limit its upside.
