Jakarta, July 26, 2025 – J Trust Bank, through its environmentally oriented savings program, TORA Green Savings, continues its tangible commitment to supporting the conservation of Indonesia's coastal ecosystems. A total of 2,000 mangrove trees were successfully planted on Harapan Island, Thousand Islands, DKI Jakarta, on July 24, 2025, coinciding with the commemoration of World Mangrove Day, which falls on July 26 each year. This activity is a concrete manifestation of customer contributions through donations collected from the TORA Green Savings program funds.
This planting was carried out in collaboration with CarbonEthics as the implementing partner. The planted mangroves are of the Rhizophora stylosa species, with an estimated carbon sequestration potential of 66,000 kg of CO₂e over 20 years. In addition to providing ecological benefits by mitigating the impacts of climate change, this activity also supports biodiversity and the resilience of coastal communities.
The planting took place on Harapan Island, Thousand Islands (coordinates 5°39'15.3"S 106°34'29.1"E), one of the strategic areas for the blue ecosystem restoration program, which includes mangroves, seagrass, and seaweed. Besides serving as a natural habitat for rare species like sea turtles, the area is also an educational tourism site for learning about climate change.
