In the Previous Trading Session (October 8, 2026):
- The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) closed down 1.88% at 6,031.28, compared with 6,146.72 at the close on October 7, 2026.
- The Rupiah weakened by 0.08% to IDR 17,895 per USD, compared with IDR 17,880 per USD at the close on October 7, 2026.
Indonesia’s financial markets closed under pressure on Thursday, with both the JCI and the Rupiah posting declines. Market sentiment was weighed down by a stronger US dollar, elevated US Treasury yields, and concerns over global inflation and interest rates, as investors monitored US economic data for signals regarding the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy outlook.
Indonesia’s Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) eased to 118.1 in September 2026 from 118.5 previously, primarily reflecting a deterioration in perceptions of current economic conditions and job availability. However, expectations for future income and employment opportunities continued to improve, indicating that domestic consumption remains relatively resilient.
Global
Wall Street closed mixed on Thursday, with the Nasdaq Composite falling 1.25% to 27,193.34 and the S&P 500 declining 0.47% to 7,765.36, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.10% to 51,231.64. Market sentiment was pressured by concerns over OpenAI’s revenue outlook, weighing on technology stocks, as well as a surge in oil prices amid US–Iran tensions, which heightened inflation risks and reinforced expectations that interest rates could remain elevated for longer.
President Donald Trump stated that the US would not attack Iran before the midterm elections on November 3, 2026, and described negotiations with Tehran as productive. While the statement could ease concerns over further escalation, the maritime blockade and ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz continue to pose significant risks to global energy supply. Oil prices strengthened, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rising 3.11% to USD 91.02 per barrel and Brent crude increasing 3.45% to USD 103.65 per barrel, driven by geopolitical risks and potential production disruptions caused by a storm in the Gulf of Mexico.
The US Dollar Index (DXY) declined 0.11% to 102.13 but remained near its highest level since April 2025. Expectations that the Federal Reserve will maintain elevated interest rates for longer, inflation concerns stemming from rising oil prices, and hawkish remarks from Fed officials continued to support the US dollar. Meanwhile, initial US jobless claims fell to 197,000 from 199,000, indicating continued resilience in the labor market and potentially limiting further weakness in the US dollar.
