Previous Trading Session – 05 October 2026
- The Indonesia Stock Exchange Composite Index (IHSG) closed higher by 1.36% at 6,118.86, compared with 6,036.89 at the close of 02 October 2026.
- The Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) closed weaker by 0.15% at 17,900/USD, compared with 17,873/USD at the close of 02 October 2026.
Indonesia’s financial markets closed mixed on Monday, with the IHSG strengthening while the Rupiah weakened. The IHSG was supported by gains in the infrastructure, property, energy, and banking sectors. Meanwhile, the Rupiah remained under pressure from a stronger US Dollar and elevated US Treasury (UST) yields.
Global Markets
Wall Street closed higher, with the Nasdaq rising 1.05% to 27,477.31, the S&P 500 gaining 0.66% to 7,773.95, and the Dow Jones increasing 0.18% to 51,267.90. The gains were primarily supported by technology and AI-related stocks, while lower oil prices and easing expectations for further Federal Reserve rate hikes helped sustain positive market sentiment.
Oil prices declined, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) falling 2.11% to USD 89.19 per barrel and Brent crude declining 1.99% to USD 100.22 per barrel, amid a recovery in Middle Eastern oil exports and increased flows through the Strait of Hormuz. However, escalating tensions in Yemen and the risk of disruptions along the Bab el-Mandeb trade route remain factors that could sustain volatility in energy prices.
The US Dollar Index (DXY) strengthened by 0.19% to 102.12, reaching its highest level since April 2025, supported by a weaker euro amid rising political and fiscal uncertainty in Europe. Meanwhile, 10-year and 30-year UST yields increased to 5.31% and 5.66%, respectively, adding pressure on emerging-market currencies and assets. Markets currently price approximately a 77% probability that the Federal Reserve will keep its policy rate unchanged at its next meeting.
The US released its September ISM Services PMI, which declined to 54.9 from 55.4, below the market expectation of 55.0. The data indicates a moderation in services-sector activity and could potentially limit further US Dollar appreciation. Tonight, the US is scheduled to release its August Trade Balance, which is projected to record a USD 102 billion deficit, widening from the previous USD 88.6 billion deficit.
