Market Closing - Monday, 26 October 2026
- The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) declined by 1.22% to close at 5,373.09, compared with 5,439.26 at the close on 23 October 2026.
- The Indonesian Rupiah weakened by 0.39% to IDR 18,115 per USD, compared with IDR 18,045 per USD at the close on 23 October 2026.
Indonesia's financial markets came under pressure in Monday's trading session, with both the JCI and the Rupiah weakening. Market sentiment was weighed down by concerns surrounding MSCI and the potential for foreign capital outflows, while investors monitored the Federal Reserve's upcoming interest rate decision and key US economic data releases scheduled for this week.
Global Markets
Wall Street closed higher on Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 0.28% to 52,361.58, the S&P 500 gaining 0.70% to 7,676.77, and the Nasdaq Composite advancing 0.82% to 26,169.38. Market sentiment was supported by optimism surrounding the artificial intelligence (AI) sector following Anthropic's IPO filing and significant revenue growth. Semiconductor stocks also advanced, while lower oil prices provided additional support to equity markets.
Oil prices declined, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude falling 0.89% to USD 101.45 per barrel and Brent crude easing 0.31% to USD 115.36 per barrel, amid a meeting between Saudi Arabia and Iran aimed at easing bilateral tensions. However, supply disruption risks remained elevated following Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia. The release of oil from the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve also helped alleviate supply pressures. Nevertheless, geopolitical uncertainty and limited investment in US oil production could continue to contribute to oil price volatility.
The US Dollar Index (DXY) strengthened 0.31% to 102.02, ending its two-week losing streak. The greenback gained support as investors positioned themselves ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy decision and key US economic releases, particularly GDP growth and Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation data. Although interest rates are widely expected to remain unchanged, markets are closely monitoring the Fed's policy signals for indications of a potential rate hike in December.
The US is scheduled to release September Durable Goods Orders tonight, with growth projected to accelerate to 1.5% from 0% previously. Meanwhile, the Conference Board (CB) Consumer Confidence Index for October is expected to decline to 81 from 81.9. An increase in durable goods orders would signal a potential strengthening in manufacturing activity, while a decline in consumer confidence could indicate a weakening consumption outlook. As these indicators point in different directions, their implications for the US dollar and the Rupiah may be mixed.
