Financial Market Closing - Friday, 30 October 2026
- JCI (Jakarta Composite Index) closed lower by 0.8% at 5,057.05.
- Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) strengthened marginally by 0.03% to IDR 18,120 per USD.
In Friday's trading session last week, the JCI closed lower, while the Indonesian Rupiah managed to post a marginal appreciation against the US Dollar. The Rupiah's appreciation was supported by a weaker US Dollar Index, which appeared to be driven by easing global oil prices, although prices remained above USD 100 per barrel.
This week, several key economic indicators are scheduled for release, both domestically and internationally.
Domestic Market
On the domestic front, Indonesia's Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for October 2026 was released today, Monday, 2 November 2026, at 54.0. This marked an improvement from the previous month's reading of 52.4 and exceeded the market consensus forecast of 51.9. The reading indicates that Indonesia's manufacturing sector remains in expansionary territory, with business activity gaining further momentum compared to the previous month.
Also today, market participants will be closely monitoring the release of Indonesia's September 2026 Trade Balance and October 2026 Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation data by Statistics Indonesia (BPS).
Of particular interest is whether Indonesia's trade surplus will widen or narrow, given the continued increase in global oil prices. Regarding inflation, headline inflation is expected to accelerate on a year-on-year (YoY) basis, while core inflation is projected to moderate YoY.
Moving forward to Thursday, 5 November 2026, BPS is scheduled to release Indonesia's third-quarter 2026 (Q3 2026) GDP growth data. Economic growth is forecast to moderate to 5.0%, compared to 5.29% in the previous quarter.
On Friday, Bank Indonesia (BI) will release its October 2026 foreign exchange reserves data. This indicator will attract considerable market attention, as it will provide insights into Bank Indonesia's capacity to maintain Rupiah stability through its foreign exchange reserves position.
Global
US equity markets closed lower in Friday's trading session last week. The Nasdaq Composite declined by 2.86%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) fell by 1.09%, while the S&P 500 dropped by 1.82%.
The decline in US equity markets appeared to be primarily driven by profit-taking activities among investors, with selling pressure weighing on overall market performance.
This week also features several important economic data releases, particularly from the United States, which remains a key benchmark for global economic developments.
Today, the US will release its October Manufacturing PMI data. On Tuesday, market participants will turn their attention to the September JOLTS Job Openings report, which measures the number of available job vacancies in the United States.
On Wednesday, the ADP Employment Change report and Services PMI will be released, providing further insights into US employment conditions and the performance of the services sector.
On Thursday, the market will focus on weekly Initial Jobless Claims, followed by the highly anticipated October 2026 Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) and Unemployment Rate data on Friday.
These upcoming economic releases will be closely monitored by market participants, as the results could influence expectations regarding the future monetary policy direction of the US Federal Reserve (The Fed), which remains a key reference point for global financial markets.
