Financial Market Closing: Friday, September 11, 2026
- The JCI closed lower by 0.73% at 6,541.38.
- The Rupiah closed weaker by 0.31% at 17,585/USD.
In the final trading session of last week, Friday, September 11, 2026, both the JCI and the Rupiah weakened. The decline was primarily driven by global sentiment, particularly renewed tensions in the Middle East, which prompted market participants, especially global investors, to adopt a more cautious stance.
Domestically, market participants will be awaiting Indonesia's External Debt data. Bank Indonesia is scheduled to release Indonesia's External Debt data for July 2026 on Tuesday this week. For reference, Indonesia's External Debt position at the end of the second quarter of 2026 increased by 4.4%. A controlled increase in debt is likely to receive a neutral market response. However, a sharp increase could raise expectations of higher foreign currency demand and potentially affect Rupiah stability.
Global
US stock markets closed higher on Friday last week. The Dow Jones rose 0.98%, the S&P 500 gained 0.86%, and the Nasdaq Composite increased 0.96%. The gains came after oil prices temporarily declined following their sharp increase in the previous period.
After briefly declining, oil prices rose again. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) increased 2.42% to US$102.47/barrel, while Brent rose 2.97% to US$107.67/barrel, reaching a four-month high. The increase came amid supply disruption risks following the shutdown of a major Saudi oil pipeline and continued uncertainty surrounding oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
Regarding monetary policy, the Federal Reserve is expected to raise interest rates by 25 bps to 3.75%–4.00% this week. US inflation data for August showed mixed signals. Headline Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation increased 0.4% MoM from 0.1% previously, while the YoY rate remained unchanged at 3.4%. Core CPI increased to 0.3% MoM from 0.2%, although the YoY rate declined to 2.4% from 2.5%.
On Wednesday evening, the US is scheduled to release August retail sales data, which is expected to increase by 0.9% MoM, compared with -0.6% previously.
In addition to developments in the US, market participants will also monitor monetary policy decisions in the United Kingdom and Japan. The Bank of England (BoE) is expected to maintain its policy rate at 3.75% on Thursday, while the Bank of Japan (BoJ) is expected to raise its policy rate by 25 bps to 1.25% on Friday.
