Financial Market Close: Friday, September 25, 2026
- JCI (Jakarta Composite Index) closed weakened 0.82% at the 6,247.07 level.
- Rupiah closed strengthen 0.03% at the 17,880/USD level.
In last Friday’s trading session, Indonesia’s financial markets closed mixed. The Indonesia Stock Exchange Composite Index (IHSG) closed lower, while the Indonesian Rupiah strengthened against the US Dollar (USD). The Rupiah’s appreciation appears to reflect Bank Indonesia’s efforts to maintain Rupiah stability, amid global sentiment that continues to put pressure on domestic markets. Key external pressures include expectations that the Federal Reserve (the Fed) will keep interest rates higher for longer, ongoing tensions in the Middle East with no significant positive developments, and relatively high oil prices.
As domestic issue, several economic indicators will draw market attention this week, including the Manufacturing PMI for September, the Trade Balance for August, and inflation data, all of which are scheduled for release on Thursday this week.
For reference, Indonesia’s manufacturing activity stood at 49.8 in August, indicating contraction. The July Trade Balance recorded a surplus of USD 130 million, driven by stronger import growth. In the following period, August inflation stood at 3.19%, while core inflation was recorded at 2.92%. This increase marked the highest inflation rate since March 2026.
Global
In the United States, equity markets closed higher last Friday. The Dow Jones rose 0.93%, the S&P 500 gained 0.51%, and the Nasdaq increased by 0.50%. The gains in US equities were supported by technology stocks and lower oil prices. However, rising US Treasury (UST) yields and expectations of a Fed rate hike in October remain key risks for global equities.
Looking ahead, market participants will be watching several global economic indicators scheduled for release. In the United States, JOLTS Job Openings data for August will be released on Tuesday. On Wednesday, August PCE inflation data will be released, along with the final US GDP figure for the second quarter. On Friday, the US labour market report, including Nonfarm Payrolls for September, will be released.
These US economic indicators will be important for the market to monitor, as they could influence the direction of the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate policy.
