Jakarta, 31 December 2024 – PT Bank JTrust Indonesia Tbk (J Trust Bank) has again launched an innovative savings program that integrates ESG (environment, social, governance) aspects entitled TORA Blue Ocean Savings. This program is designed to support the preservation of marine ecosystems through waste management and recycling, particularly plastic waste.
Marine pollution due to garbage waste continues to be one of the most threatening environmental problems. Based on the World Bank report titled The Atlas of Sustainable Development Goals 2023, Indonesia is the 5th largest producer of marine plastic waste in the world during the period 2020 – 2023. Seeing this urgency, J Trust Bank took a strategic step to address this problem through the TORA Blue Ocean Savings program.
This program invites customers to save while contributing to marine conservation efforts. By donating 0.5% p.a of the 3.5% p.a savings interest, customers are helping to finance environmental projects in the form of plastic waste management and recycling processes. Not only that, J Trust Bank also contributes by adding a 0.38% p.a donation to the project.
J Trust Bank’s Business Director and Sustainability Chairman, Widjaja Hendra, explained, “The TORA Blue Ocean Savings program is our realization in bringing added value to all stakeholders, namely business practices that are aligned with efforts to improve and preserve the ocean. Customers not only get a profitable savings program, but as a self-value shows commitment and responsibility to the Indonesian sea that supports the lives of all of us.”
In waste management and recycling activities, J Trust Bank collaborates with Waste4Change (https://waste4change.com), a social business actor that provides waste management solutions from upstream to downstream, responsibly and reliably.
“Customer donation of 0.5% p.a and J Trust Bank donations of 0.38% p.a collected from the placement of customer funds during the TORA Blue Ocean Savings program will be channeled by J Trust Bank to Waste4Change to finance the management and recycling process of plastic waste so as not to pollute the sea,” continued Widjaja Hendra.
As a form of accountability and transparency, J Trust Bank will submit a plastic waste management report conducted by Waste4Change to customers through J Trust Bank’s official communication channels.
